Hypnotherapy

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy is effective for altering unhelpful thinking styles and unwanted habits or behaviours that are stored in the unconscious mind

Once a trance has been induced with the help of the therapist, it is possible to bypass the conscious mind and connect with the unconscious, in order to establish new patterns via suggestion. Guided visualisation and imagery is generally incorporated as the unconscious mind naturally absorbs this type of communication, making the process a pleasant and relaxing experience

A 'script' is designed by the therapist in collaboration with the client, which focuses on pre-discussed goals. Although a single session can be very effective; a further one or two sessions are usually recommended to reinforce changes

A Trance?

Hypnosis involves inducing a trance – a naturally occurring state where attention is narrowed and focused through relaxation. We are likely to enter this state several times a day, without realising it whilst engaging in activities such as reading or watching TV. Clients remain fully aware and in control throughout a session and often experience an enhanced ability to visualise and imagine, which is beneficial to the process of therapy
